River Bend Botanical Society

Overview

The River Bend Botanical Society was established in February 2007 as volunteer gardeners devoted to activities and projects to help make New Madrid a welcoming environment.

Since the group began, they've hit the ground running. Or should we say digging! Their first project was to organize and plant the planters along Main Street. Planters were grouped in threes with varying levels. Spring brought a splash of color with numerous annuals; autumn with mums; and finally winter with glittered branches and pine greenery.

The group has been accepting $50 donations for memorials for red knock-out roses which have been planted at various sites, including the River Front Park, the New Madrid County Courthouse, New Madrid Post Office and the New Madrid Historical Museum. Markers bearing the name of loved ones are displayed.

An artist was commissioned to put the group's ideas into a visual drawing for the Downtown area. Crepe Myrtles now adorn both sides of the street with benches to be strategically placed for visitors. The planter boxes along the street were constructed by the Street Department.

The members of the RBBS are continuing with fundraisers for the New Madrid County Veterans Park located at 302 Main Street Veterans Park Brick Order Form (PDF)
