Overview
The oldest house in New Madrid was built by Abraham Augustine and moved to its present location in order to escape the encroaching waters of the Mississippi River. The house is now home to the newest attraction to the community, the River Walk Gallery.
Various photography and painting exhibits will be held throughout the year with different themes. The new addition to the River Walk Gallery at the Hart-Stepp House is now open for viewing. The Gallery has four sections, a Gift Shop with some of the finest pottery made, books for historians and how to photography books, beautiful 5X7 post cards, candles, coffee mugs of the river walk and much more. Next is the Delta Region Room featuring matted framed prints of the area and then you will experience the Life in New Madrid Room displaying matted prints of local flare and finally the new addition which consists of two rooms, one dedicated to local artists and the other to wildlife conservation.
Anyone interested in photography, painting or other art forms is welcomed to join the group. For information about becoming a member call 573-748-4060.
