Overview
Municipal Light and Power services the 1,600 customers of New Madrid with some of the lowest rates in the state. Power is supplied by Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. of New Madrid Power Plant (coal fired, firm power) and Southwestern Power Administration (hydroelectric, peaking power).
Electric Power Supply
The city's peak load is 12,000 kilowatt (KW). A firm power contract provides 55,000 KW of firm power, and the peaking power contract allows for 1,200 hours at 4,500 KW. Residential, commercial and industrial rates are available upon request.
